Riggs died peacefully alongside his mom and dad of nearly 14 years, Wednesday September 28th, under the care of his friends of OVC Veterinary staff. He was the star of the show in true Riggs fashion right until the very end with a bright smile, sporting his bunbun clipped in a yellow bow and wearing his lucky bandanna.
Sheepdog Riggs was born in Quebec on December 5, 2008. Brave. Silly. Advanced in having life figured out. He was an adaptable companion, immediately recognizable, and had a clownish but intelligent personality. Affectionately received as an “Old Soul”, he’s always been wise beyond his years and grounded with a sense of connection to all he meets. He grew and built upon his experiences, bringing all his information with him. He had the ability to claim himself fully, and for that, he truly knew how to live in the moment.
Riggs found love in simplicity and was affectionate, yet independent. We truly have learned a lot and will continue to learn from Sheepdog Riggs to keep his memory alive.
Constant teacher, best friend, and loyal companion. There is no soul in this universe like Riggs, and in all the world, I had the privilege of meeting Sheepdog Riggs.
Riggs is a heart dog, one who seems to have a private window to our souls. There will truly never be another Riggs. Never to be replaced, not to be forgotten.
Although Riggs had his health struggles, he battled and fought them all like a champion, and always with a smile. We wish to congratulate Riggs on 14 faithful years, his titles, his many accomplishments, and on his latest—even improved—blood work which was unremarkable. Riggs want for nothing, in which there are no regrets. He was protected from everything, he was even bought him more time; but in the end there’s never enough time. Riggs has taught us all so much, and his job is done. Although, he never had a job, as his only job was to be happy, and because of that, we must let you go.
This is my last gift to you.
Riggs will be greatly missed by many, but none more so than his mom. She loved him with all her heart, to the moon and back. Riggs leaves behind his mom, dad, grandpaw and grandmaw, and horse friend Gritt; many caring veterinarians and team members at OVC and Main Street, and numerous amazing friends throughout the years. Predeceased by Fluke, Miley, Luna, Marlie, Pickle, and Ralph.
Thank you for your kindness, your warm kisses, your soft fur to wipe our tears, and always lending a paw to hold. Riggs leaves our heart so full, and of fond memories. Until we meet again Baby R. We love you more than you’ll ever know.
A pre-celebration of life was held where Riggs enjoyed being surrounded by family, friends, never before tasted treats (his first Timbit and chocolate! Thanks OVC!), playtimes, a strong-boy walk (he says, I got this!), wagon ride, and birthday balloons.
At the wishes of Riggs’ family, please be a responsible pet owner, and give your dog an extra hug. Donations can be made on our website, or to OVC Pet Trust in Riggs’ name.
