Sheepdog Riggs
What can we say about Sheepdog Riggs. He is my heart and soul dog, and there will truly never be another Riggs. Never to be replaced, not to be forgotten. Though, our bond wasn’t always this strong.
We built it to where we are today. He is my drive and new found enthusiasm in science and innovative learning.
Brave. Silly. Advanced in having life figured out.
Sheepdog Riggs is an Old English Sheepdog. He was born December 5, 2008. He is an adaptable companion, immediately recognizable, and has a clownish, but intelligent personality. Affectionately received as an “Old Soul”, he’s always been wise beyond his years and grounded with a sense of connection to all he meets. He grows and builds upon experiences, bringing all his information with him. He has the ability to claim himself fully, and for that, he truly knows how to live in the moment. He taught me how to do that, too.
He finds love in simplicity and is affectionate, yet independent. We truly have a lot to learn from Sheepdog Riggs.
Constant teacher, best friend, and loyal companion. There is no soul in this universe like Riggs, and in all the world,
I have the privilege of meeting…

Herding Instinct Test – HIT (2013)
Riggs brilliantly uncovered his instincts during a supervised exposure as an inexperienced dog to dog-broke livestock. This Herding Instinct Test (HIT) was a simple test to determine whether or not Riggs had the “instinct” required for sheep herding. You cannot “make” a dog herd—he has to want to do it. Riggs channeled his instincts as a natural crowd pleaser. Riggs’ style was driving. His approach ran closely, he worked silently, his temperament readily adjusts, he sustained interest. His power was sufficient for stock, he was responsive to guidance and control, kept stock grouped, and always adjusted position.
We remember Riggs December 5, 2008 – September 28, 2022
